Labor Day Is Upon Us!

By Troy Steuwer | September 2, 2010

While most know Labor Day as the beginning of the NFL and college football team, believe it or not, there is more to the day than 50-yard lines and quarterbacks.

From Wikipedia:

The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City.[1] It became a federal holiday in 1894, when, following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, PresidentGrover Cleveland put reconciliation with the labor movement as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.[2] The September date was chosen as Cleveland was concerned that aligning an American labor holiday with existing international May Day celebrations would stir up negative emotions linked to the Haymarket Affair.[3] All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

West Bay Named Top 2010 Business Facilities

By Dan Friess | August 18, 2010

I thought this was an interesting article. West Bay was named one of the top 2010 business facilities from The Business Facilities Location Advisor. Of the 250 or so metropolitan statistical areas they cover throughout the year, West Bay was chosen as a leader. Here’s a quick snippet from their article:

“Perhaps no better example of the seemingly overnight transformation of a region can be found than the current activity on the Florida panhandle. One of the nation’s largest economic development initiatives is taking shape amidst the piney trees and pristine beaches in Northwest Florida near Panama City.

What makes the 75,000-acre West Bay development unique is not just a huge public-private effort that is spearheaded by the area’s largest property owner, The St. Joe Co. and has brought together state, regional and local agencies: West Bay is the only economic development project in the nation that comes with its own brand-new international airport.”

The Beach To Get A New City Park?

By Troy Steuwer | August 18, 2010

Hallelujah! If there’s one thing the beach needs it’s a city park. Many cities across the nation have some of the most beautiful and memorable city parks. NYC’s Central Park, Boston’s Post Office Square, and the Millennium Park in Chicago; all of these great cities have stunning parks whether big or small. Why can’t Panama City Beach have one?

Well, according to PCB Daily, a recent City Council meeting voted to create one. Now’s the perfect time anyway, right? With prices as low as they are, snatching up a gulf-front lot is as cheap as it’s going to get.

One potential site is one that I love: the old Fiesta Motel site. This long and narrow area is perfect for a beach front park. Mind you, we’ll need some more trees, palms and other shrubbery, but it’s got the back bones of “the perfect spot.” (Image above)

What Is A Short Sale?

By Chad Miller | August 18, 2010

I just wrote a quick blog on short sales. Here’s a quick snippet:

Foreclosures in Panama City, Florida are affecting families, communities, the housing market and the local economy. One option many troubled homeowners are taking to reduce penalties and avoid foreclosure is a short sale. The question is, what is a short sale?

A short sale is the sale of real estate in which the sale proceeds fall short of the loan balance or payoff. It’s an alternative many homeowners are taking to avoid foreclosure and default penalties.”

Gulf Oil Spill: Panama City Beach Disaster Averted?

By Tina Bass | August 18, 2010

Very good news coming out of the Gulf over the past weeks; as of August 10th, a report informed that no oil has been observed for 30 days in the area to be re-opened for fishing. NOAA reopened 5,144 square miles of Gulf waters to commercial and recreational fishing. Since July 3rd, data has shown there is no oil in the area and the United States Coast Guard observers scanning the area have not seen any oil. Models show the area is at a low risk for future exposure to oil, but is all this a little to late? Some local business owners fear so, at least for this summer season. As for most of us locals, well, we just feel like a lot of prayers have been answered and thank God we still have our beautiful beaches! Some even hope the Obama’s visit to Panama City Beach will over come some fears. I say the best thing to do is come on down and enjoy a few days at the beach and see for yourself. There is no oil!

My Take On The Panama City Real Estate Market

By Norman Brown | August 17, 2010

Hello Friends,

Panama City Beach is open for business. There is no “oil slick” anywhere in site and as the season progresses the beach is now more beautiful than ever!

Now that the oil spill has been capped, buyers and sellers are finally coming back to the market. This intense activity and the settling down of prices in part of the market is causing a small up-tick in many high value properties. It will not be long before this starts effecting other properties as well.

There are very good deals to be had out there. Now is the time to consider investing for the future.

Did you see??

By Sharon Newbold | August 17, 2010

What? Our President and his family were visiting our own Panama City Beach for a short vacation this past weekend? What a value this is to our local economy! Hopefully, this small event will “buzz” our city and our business back to where it should be. We are so grateful not to be significantly affected by the oil spill. Take a step south and enjoy what comes natural.

New Attractions Come To Pier Park

By Tara Berry | August 17, 2010

For those of you who are not familiar with Pier Park, it is an open air concept mall in the heart of Panama City Beach located across from and tied into the city pier. The project is a Simon Corporation complex and it offers traditional department store shopping from merchants such as JC Penny, Dillards and the like, as well as specialty stores and boutiques such as Ann Taylor Loft and Coldwater Creek. Additionally, Pier Park features a state of the art 16 show movie theatre and an open air concert pavilion, which is host to many wonderful concerts throughout the season. There are also numerous restaurants, souvenir, candy, and ice cream shops scattered throughout the property. It’s a wonderful place to grab an ice cream cone or frozen Pina Colada and stroll along the pier to watch locals and tourist try their luck at reeling in “The Big One”.

Stylish Efficiency Condo At Origin

By admin | August 13, 2010

Origin is one of those condos that just “wow” you as you walk by. It looks so sophisticated and so unique that it literally draws you in. Have you ever though, I’d like to own a condo there? Well, now you can. Unit #713 is an efficiency, perfect for first-time condo buyers or someone looking for a smaller unit. It features everything you could need that you find in 1, 2, even 3 bedroom condos. In fact, it has quite a few extras that you wont find in many efficiency units.

The first thing you’ll notice is that it feels very spacious. Since an efficiency is more or less one large room, its very important to use the space wisely to make it feel larger than it really is. The owner has also included lovely furnishings to make you feel right at home. The unit also features a small refrigerator, 2-burner cooktop with vent, microwave, dining area, and large television.

Enjoy beautiful views of tree-tops from the balcony or take a hop-skip-and-a-jump right over the the beach.
