Gulf Oil Spill: Panama City Beach Disaster Averted?
By Tina Bass | August 18, 2010
Very good news coming out of the Gulf over the past weeks; as of August 10th, a report informed that no oil has been observed for 30 days in the area to be re-opened for fishing. NOAA reopened 5,144 square miles of Gulf waters to commercial and recreational fishing. Since July 3rd, data has shown there is no oil in the area and the United States Coast Guard observers scanning the area have not seen any oil. Models show the area is at a low risk for future exposure to oil, but is all this a little to late? Some local business owners fear so, at least for this summer season. As for most of us locals, well, we just feel like a lot of prayers have been answered and thank God we still have our beautiful beaches! Some even hope the Obama’s visit to Panama City Beach will over come some fears. I say the best thing to do is come on down and enjoy a few days at the beach and see for yourself. There is no oil!
