New Attractions Come To Pier Park

By Tara Berry | August 17, 2010

For those of you who are not familiar with Pier Park, it is an open air concept mall in the heart of Panama City Beach located across from and tied into the city pier. The project is a Simon Corporation complex and it offers traditional department store shopping from merchants such as JC Penny, Dillards and the like, as well as specialty stores and boutiques such as Ann Taylor Loft and Coldwater Creek. Additionally, Pier Park features a state of the art 16 show movie theatre and an open air concert pavilion, which is host to many wonderful concerts throughout the season. There are also numerous restaurants, souvenir, candy, and ice cream shops scattered throughout the property. It’s a wonderful place to grab an ice cream cone or frozen Pina Colada and stroll along the pier to watch locals and tourist try their luck at reeling in “The Big One”.

I am especially excited about the latest additions to Pier Park. The newest restaurant Hook’d is situated directly on the Pier affording patrons the opportunity to dine right over the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. The most exciting recent addition, to me personally, is the amusement area which features rides and attractions from the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park. The Miracle Strip Amusement Park was built in 1963 and brought decades of entertainment to multiple generations of families-mine included. The Park closed within the last five years or so and when it did I was among many who were sad to see it go. The Miracle Strip is a source of wonderful childhood memories for my family and I-We never vacationed in Panama City Beach without at least one evening spent munching on cotton candy, candied apples, and riding the various rides the Miracle Strip had to offer. It is simply terrific to now be able to stop by Pier Park and hop on, with my nieces and nephews, the exact carousel I rode as a kid.

The next time you are in our area please make sure you take advantage of all that Pier Park has to offer and don’t miss the opportunity to take a spin on the Miracle Strip Ferris Wheel or Carousel.
