All Eyes Are On The Gulf Of Mexico!

By Tina Bass | May 12, 2010

All eyes are on the Gulf of Mexico, as of Tuesday the oil slick was approx129 miles from Pensacola according to NOAA. The state is also giving daily updates on the spill. Wind and currents continue to keep the plume away from the Florida coast for at least the next 72 hours. Although the loop current is far enough south from the oil that there is no imminent threat the oil will be picked up by the loop current, Florida still continues to make preparations to safeguard the state’s shoreline.

Currently there are no Florida State Park or beach closures, including the Panhandle. The Florida State Park website will be updated with daily reports, please visit Florida State Pakrs for more information. Also, www.VISITFLORIDA.com, has up to the minute information on the status of any city or region in Florida.

Now how can we help! Here are a few websites providing information to anyone who may want to volunteer: for scheduled beach cleanups and other volunteer opportunities, visit www.volunteerflorida.org. Also the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service is encouraging Floridians to become a “Coast Watch volunteer”, please visit http://tinyurl.com/2fjjqq5 for more information. If you see any distressed animals please report them to the Wildlife Distress Hotline:  (866) 557-1401.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to purchase a condo in Panama City Beach, please feel free to give me a call at 850-691-9822!
