Mosquito Prevention Tips from the Beach Mosquito Control District

Today, we received some insightful tips on how to control the number of mosquitoes on your property. Use these tips to help you, and Bay County, reduce the number of mosquitoes during the summer season.
- Drain flower pot saucers, wheel barrows or tires stored outdoors
- Change children’s wading pool water
- Keep trash cans covered or have drainage holes on the bottom of the trash container
- Store upside-down: cleaning buckets, containers or cans
- Flush out bird baths with clean water
- Keep your pet’s water bowl clean by adding fresh water daily
- Remember to keep your swimming pool chemicals balanced
- Keep pool covers or other types of tarps water free or flush out with fresh water
- Keep rain gutters, outdoor fish cleaning sinks or stationary tubs unclogged
- Store small boats, canoes or kayaks upside-down so no standing water can accumulate
- Drain tire swings or other children toys (i.e. sand pails, dump trucks & empty sandboxes)
- Drain ice coolers after each use and keep lid closed
