Construction on the new Bay County International Airport has been rapidly increasing over the past several weeks. This was further confirmed by WMBB News Channel 13 this morning with news that it’s actually three months ahead of schedule.
Bree Sison, a reporter for WMBB News Channel 13, reports that there are still two pending challenges against the airport; however, they don’t expect them to halt any progress made on the site. The Airport Authority says that the main access road off Highway 388 (see pictures below) will be completed by June and the 8,400 foot runway will be paved by Fall. You can view footage of the new airport by visiting WMBB’s website above.
Here are some pictures that were taken this morning on my way to the office. Pardon the resolution and quality as they were taken with a camera phone and I was not allowed to stop.

Do you know yet what major airlines are going to be flying out of the new airport?

Hey Debbie, I asked John Zebroski (Project Director for the Panama City/Bay County International Airport) if there was news on which airlines would be coming to the new airport and he responded with:
“There is no confirmation as of yet as to which airlines will be hosting regular operations from the new Panama City Airport. The Airport Authority is in discussions with a number of domestic and international carriers about the features of the new airport and our desire to accommodate their needs.”
