Rosemary Beach, The New Frontier

By admin | April 11, 2008

There are many distinct places in Northwest Florida to buy real estate. Many share common amenities and community themes, however, there are places beyond the ordinary that embrace their own culture.

Rosemary Beach RoadOne such place our team has always enjoyed is Rosemary Beach, Florida. Encompassing roughly 105 acres and located near Seaside, this outdoor community goes beyond the scope of any other destination in the area. Rosemary Beach was founded in 1995 by the highly regarded design and development firm, Duany Plater Zyberk & Company. This husband-and-wife team specializes in a new movement called “New Urbanism.” The primary goal of new urbanism is to maintain a walkable community which contains its own housing and employment areas. When you visit Rosemary Beach, you’ll be in complete awe of how different the atmosphere is when compared to other communities in the area.

Rosemary Beach, Florida - The BeachRosemary Beach contains an eclectic mix of housing types. From Spanish to German, and Mediterranean to Beach Cottage, you’ll find an array of different types of architecture and colors. Although many of the houses are relatively close together, it only adds to the sense of united community. Most of the properties are very large, containing some 2,000 sq. ft. to over 4,000 sq. ft. With price tags ranging from $721,000 for a two bedroom, one bathroom home, to over $5.4 million for a massive 4,350 sq. ft. home with views of the Gulf, Rosemary Beach is for those who are looking for an exclusive high-end property.

Although the area itself is 90% complete, it seems as though Rosemary hasn’t been affected by the “downward-housing-apocalyptic-doomsday-spiral” that the media keeps trying to convince us on a daily basis. Approximately 20 new houses are under construction and the community itself is thriving. We recently previewed many homes and were delighted with what we saw. The interior features, accents and materials where top-notch.

On a side note, one of our favorite areas of Rosemary Beach was its town center. This is where the fun happens: shopping, socializing and eating. Rosemary exhibits many stores in the town center with various “walkable-streets” that reminded us of Italy. There you can shop for clothes, buy contemporary furniture, grab a bite at the outdoor restaurants, and after all is said and done, grab a vanilla latte at Starbucks.Rosemary Beach Clock TowerRosemary Beach Clock Tower

I was thinking about selling my condo in PCB and buying in Rosemary Beach. I also like Seaside, but there’s something about Rosemary that feels unique and unlike anything else. Plus its easier for me to just come down through De Funiak Springs and hit Hwy 331.
